Les aliments à base de soja, riches en isoflavones, ne doivent pas être servis en restauration collective, recommande l’Anses

The French Agency for Food, Environmental and Occupational Health & Safety (Anses) recommends that soy-based foods (desserts, yogurts, milk, veggie burgers, tofu, and especially savory biscuits) not be served in collective catering (crèches, schools, company restaurants, retirement homes, hospitals) due to their high isoflavone content, plant substances similar to female hormones with potentially harmful health effects. Anses suggests diversifying plant-based foods, as other legumes are much lower in isoflavones, and awaits less isoflavone-rich soy varieties. The agency found that isoflavone intake exceeded safe levels in a significant percentage of children, adolescent girls, and adults who consume soy products. Anses's opinion will contribute to the revision of the decree relating to the nutritional quality of meals in school catering.
